When the Continental Congress passed the Declaration of Independence in 1776, Independence Day was born. According to the written statement, American colonies had had enough of being dominated by Great Britain. They wanted to have a nation of their own.

Colonists in these growing colonies felt that they were being treated unfairly by the British administration.
